Our group is the focal point for Argentineans, their families and friends, living in or passing through the North Central Texas area of the U.S. This is a non-profit, community group, whose only goal is to offer the opportunity to socialize and maintain our traditions alive. We make it a point to avoid taking any posture based on religion, political beliefs, national origin, etc. Our only goal is to pursue social and cultural activities for the enjoyment of everyone. We have a significant number of recent arrivals, but most of the members of our association are now American citizens, having lived in the U.S. for as long as 40 years and more.
If you are an American (or any other nationality, for that matter) who has lived in or traveled to Argentina, or have an interest in things Argentinean, come to one of our meetings and relive some of your experiences. We're rather social creatures, and you will be cordially welcome. You need not be or become a member of our group.
The First Friday of Each Month... we get together and have dinner (empanadas and other foods typical of the country) at a local restaurant or, lately, the Holiday Inn Express in Addison. Soft drinks, wine and beer available. Everyone (member or not, resident or visitor) is cordially invited. After dinner we lately show an Argentinean movie, and in the past we've also played cards, talked, fixed Argentina etc. From 7:30PM until Midnight.
The Second Friday Of Each Month... we hold the meetings of the Book Club. Most meetings cover the work of well known Argentinean and other South American authors. At other times, participants bring some of their own books in Spanish, and they get exchanged and commented during the following month's meeting. On the right ocassions the subjects are of a historical nature, and we've also had "spoken theater".
To become a part of the Book Club (for which there are no dues) or simply to come to one of the meetings just to see what goes on, call 214-341-2115. Members and non-members alike are welcomed to these meetings. Admission is free.
The Fourth Friday or Saturday of each month... is the day of the Tango Club, but at this time this group has postponed its meetings. All such meetings were held at the Italian Club (map). The purpose of this group is to become more knowledgeable about the origins of this great dance, its major performers throughout the decades, etc. Not to mention learning how to dance the tango, albeit without the passion, the contorsions and the theatrics of the stage presentations we've seen over the years. You don't need to know how to dance or have a partner.
Everyone is invited. Do not bring anything the first time you attend. Afterwards, we agree on who brings a few munchies (nothing fancy). Drinks can be purchased there. Admission is free for Centro Argentino members, $3 from guests, to help defray the cost of renting the place. Call Alfredo Santesteban at 817-485-4033 or e-mail him. From 8:30PM on.
Make sure you check the list of activities on the home page
to make sure you are aware of possible changes in the
dates or the places where the meetings are held.
