Saturday March 26th: The Book Society

Horacio Quiroga (photo)

Dear Members and Friends,

Our first meeting of this cycle will be on 26 March. Mr. Horacio Marull Perretta, lawyer, journalist and honorary consul of Chile in Dallas will discuss the life and work of the Uruguayan writer Horacio Quiroga.

The subject is about the famous poet, playwright, journalist and Uruguayan writer Horacio Quiroga who has sometimes been compared to the American Edgar Allan Poe, which was also his friend. At 23 he migrated to Argentina where he developed most of his work, especially in missions and their rainforest environment which moved to the plot of many of his works. Its influence can be seen in the creation of Latin American magical realism with Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Isabel Allende and modern surrealism of Julio Cortazar. Many of his stories and novels were published in Argentina known magazine "Caras y Caretas". He died tragically in Buenos Aires in 1937.

The place is, as always, the Venetian Room of the Bonaventure Building, located at 5200 Keller Springs Road, Dallas, TX (MAP).

The meeting begins at 7:00 PM with dinner and the presentation will begin as soon as we finish dessert.

The room can only accommodate 60 people, so please call the Ms. Ivonne Marull (972) 385-6008 to RSVP as possible before Thursday 24 March.

Ladies bring a dish to share, their partners bring a wine, and people coming alone bring a dessert. Please remind Ms. Ivonne what are you thinking in bringing, so to have the appropriate variety of dishes and desserts.

The Buenaventura building is private property, so the visitor parking is limited to 20 cars, and the method they used is Valet Parking. The valet cost will be covered by the Centro Argentino, therefore you do not need to pay anything, but we will pass the 'Argentina basket' to collect a small contribution. For security reasons the building does not allowed anybody to arrive without a vehicle, for that reason we ask our partners for their friendly cooperation to coordinate and come with other attendees. They can even be found in nearby coordinate the building sites and make the famous "pool car" and so use less cars. If you have any questions, you can make it to Ms. Ivonne when they call for backup.

Come join us.
